Being a writer myself, I am 100% aware of how much writing can suck. The empty page stares at you, challenging you with its incessantly blinking cursor as your mind goes completely blank.
Or you write the same first sentence over and over again, then delete it because its just not good enough. This process can drain hours from your day and zap your motivation and productivity.
But, you know that regularly creating content, which involves at least some writing, is the corner stone of any blog or online business. So you have to do it….or do you?
Maybe, instead of spending hours staring at a blank page, you can hire someone to write for you. This person can take over the burden of writing the content, while you focus on the stuff you enjoy instead.
So, how do you know when it’s time to outsource your writing for your blog or business?
1. You need a lot of content.
This first one is pretty obvious, if you need to create a lot of content, you can’t handle it all on your own, especially if your business has other moving pieces you need to focus on.
I am a pretty fast writer and it takes me 1-2 hours to write a 500 word post. If you have 10 blog posts to create, at 500 words a pop, do have 20 hours to dedicate to this task? What else could you be doing in those 20 hours to move your business forward?
2. You don’t have the expertise.
In the past, I have written for several clients who were great at building businesses, but did not have the expertise in food and nutrition needed to create high quality blog content to go along with their high-quality nutrition products.
If this is the case, this is a great place to hire a freelancer who is also an expert in a particular topic. It will be faster for that expert to write the article you need, than for you to try to research the topic and write it yourself.
3. You need more time.
We all need more time. Finding balance between work, family, self-care, friends, etc is incredibly challenging. This is especially true for those who are self-employed or work from home, where there is no line between work and home time.
Outsources 1-2 blog posts or a few writing projects per week could free up a whole afternoon, which would allow you to spend that time in a more meaningful or productive way.
4. You are not a great writer.
Sorry, but not everyone is a good writer. With dedication and persistence, I believe that anyone can improve their writing skills, but that takes time and dedication.
Why not just hire someone who has already spent the time honing their craft or is just a naturally talented writer? This will free up time for you to focus on all your awesome skills instead.
5. Your blog is stagnant.
Hiring a freelance writer, especially one who is an expert in a particular field, can breathe new life into a blog that has lost its gusto. Maybe you are out of new ideas, bored with the same old topics, or just need a fresh perspective. Adding a writer to your team can help you accomplish all of this and possibly gain some new readership.
